Indiana is all about its Rye Whiskey. The craft whiskey scene in Indiana is booming, with over 30 distilleries producing whiskey in Indiana. The largest of which is MGP Indiana which produces Bulleit and High West whiskies which you may be familiar with.
Indiana Rye Whiskey Requirements
As of 1st July 2021, Indiana’s state Government signed a new bill formalising what exactly constitutes an Indiana Rye Whiskey.ย
Indiana Rye Whiskey must be;
- produced and aged entirely in the state of Indiana
- distilled from a mash containing at least 51% rye
- aged in new, charred white oak barrels for at least 2 years
- Distilled at no greater than 160 proof, placed in a barrel at no more than 125 proof and bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV)
