Malted Rye

Rye adds an extra bite of sweet and peppery spice to whisky, compared to barley or corn. The higher the rye content, the spicier the whiskey.

Whisky distilled from malted rye is a unique and complex spirit with a distinct flavour profile. The rye grain imparts a spicy and earthy flavour that is often described as having notes of pepper, clove, and nutmeg. It is often used in combination with other grains to create a more complex whisky, but when used alone it can produce a whisky with strong character and a lot of depth.

The malted rye also adds a dryness to the whisky that can add balance and complexity. The malting process helps to develop the enzymes in the grain that are necessary for the conversion of starch to sugar during fermentation, which imparts a sweeter and more complex flavour to the whisky.
