The Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 5175 celebrated Patek’s 175th anniversary back in 2014. They produced this incredible video showing just how intricate and time consuming producing a watch like this is.
This watch is one of only 7 in the world and costs a cool $2.6 Million USD.
But buying the Grandmaster Chime was not as simple as just ponying up the money, the CEO of Patek Philippe; Thierry Stern insisted on meeting anyone who wished to buy the watch personally, to determine whether they where the type of person who would appreciate the significance of owning a watch like this.
The Grandmaster Chime was a flagship watch for Patek and took over 100,000 hours for 2000 watchmakers to build — with over 200 hours spent on hand engraving the large golden case.
This watch is more of a marketing tool for Patek than anything. Proving to the horologist community that after 175 years, they were still able to innovate and create an insane watch.
Personally, I think the watch is gaudy, and even if I had the money, I wouldn’t wear it. But I love Patek’s attitude and wanted to share the video with you guys 😉
