Ubisoft has released the eleventh instalment in the Assassin’s Creed series, Asssasin’s Creed Odyssey. Set in classical Greece during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. You play as a mercenary who fights for both sides as you attempt to unite your family and overthrow a cult.
It’s impressive to see just how much care the development team put into making the game feel historically accurate while still writing an entertaining plotline. Introducing you to many of the historical and mythological characters you’ve probably heard about in history class.
The story itself is a prequel to last year’s Egyptian instalment Assasin’s Creed Origins. Odyssey sees the return of many of the same game mechanics as Origins. Roaming the massive world, interacting with NPCs and the quest system all feels familiar. We also see the return of the Black Flag style of naval combat.
However, there are many new mechanics designed to give you more control over how you want to play the game. To begin with, you get to decide whether you want to play as a Male or Female character. This has little impact on the storyline itself, so I suggest you choose to play as Kassandra – her voice acting is way more convincing.
Im a big fan of the reworked combat system. It feels more balanced, and separates melee, ranged and stealth into separate skill trees, allowing you to customise your character to your own play style.
If you’re looking to get the game, my suggestion is ordering a copy from Amazon. The price seems to be slightly better than other retailers, and if you have Amazon Prime you’ll receive it in time for the weekend. 🙌🏻
