On January 24, 2018, Nike unveiled a new addition to their running shoe lineup: the Epic React Flyknit. This innovative shoe is built around Nike’s React foam technology, promising a running experience that’s softer, bouncier, and lighter than ever before.
The Epic React Flyknit features a one-piece Flyknit upper, providing a snug and supportive fit, seamlessly attached to a springy sole made of React foam. This new foam technology is the star of the show, with Nike claiming it offers:
- 13% more energy return
- 11% softer cushioning
- 10% more bounce
- 5% lighter weight
Many have compared the Epic React Flyknit to the highly successful Adidas Ultra Boost. However, Ernest Kim, Director of Advanced Footwear at Nike, confidently asserts Nike’s dominance in the industry. He emphasises that the React technology isn’t just another foam—it’s a significant improvement even over Nike’s own latest Lunarlon foam used in the LunarEpic Low Flyknit 2.
“We’re not comparing Nike React technology to some no-name foam that fell off the back of a truck somewhere; we’re comparing it to our latest Lunarlon and, even with the bar set that high, Nike React technology delivers that much more energy return with each and every stride.”
